PanelSight 1.1.1: help us support your aircraft

PanelSight 1.1.1 is about the aircraft we don't support yet. PanelSight now tells you when your aircraft is one of them, and lets you record it and send the recording to us, so we can add it.

A notice when your aircraft is not supported yet

Until now, an aircraft PanelSight did not know got a basic panel, with no word about why. It looked like PanelSight was working as intended, and some people thought they had set something up wrong.

Now a short notice appears along the top of the panel. It says the aircraft is not supported yet, and that PanelSight is doing its best with standard flight instruments, or with the aircraft's own screens in a standard Garmin frame. The notice goes away by itself after a few seconds. The same line stays in Settings, under Aircraft, for as long as you fly that aircraft.

The basic panel itself is also better. Its airspeed dial is now scaled to your aircraft, with its stall-speed marks, and there is a new fuel gauge sized to its tanks.

Help us support this aircraft

When your aircraft is not supported yet, Settings shows a new button under Aircraft: Help us support this aircraft…. It records what we need to add the aircraft: pictures of its cockpit from every camera view, the list of its controls, and what its screens show.

Before you click Start capture, load a flight, park the aircraft, and switch on its battery and avionics so the screens show something. Choose a time of day with good light, because the pictures have to be readable. The recording takes 2 to 4 minutes. PanelSight hides, then moves the camera around the cockpit and moves the flaps through each setting and back, all by itself. Leave the mouse and keyboard alone until the window comes back.

Then you check the result. Nothing leaves your computer until you tick the consent box and click Send. You can add your email address if you want us to tell you when the aircraft is supported. It is optional, and we use it for nothing else. If you prefer, you can save the recording as a file and email it to us yourself. What a recording holds, and what we do with it, is explained in our privacy notice.

Open Settings from inside the sim

Tap Ctrl three times to open Settings. Tapping it twice still shows or hides the panel. You can turn this off in Settings with Tap Ctrl twice to show / hide, 3 times for Settings.

While MSFS is running, PanelSight also stays on the Windows taskbar and in Alt+Tab, so you can reach Settings when the sim covers the whole screen.

Flaps at their real angles

The flap indicator now shows the selected setting at the aircraft's real flap angle. It is new on the XCub, NXCub, VL-3, King Air 350i, Bonanza G36, DA62, AT-802, CL-415, Beaver and Optica, and corrected on the PA-28, C185F, DC-3, DR400, CAP 10, T-6, Savage Cub, P-51, Draco X and C208B. The TBM 930 gets a flap indicator for the first time. On the DR400, the airspeed dial's color bands and scale now match the aircraft.

Layout editor fixes

The editor you open with Custom layouts… is easier to use:

• Pressing Enter no longer saves and closes the editor. To rename a page, click the pencil on its tab.
• A hint bar tells you the next step, and the Spread, Grow to fit and Magic wand buttons explain what they do.
• A clear This page / All pages switch sets where an instrument is shown. It replaces the old button, which was confusing.
• Each problem says which page it is on, and page tabs now mark warnings as well as errors.
• An instrument that overlaps a glass screen now sits under it, with a note, instead of being refused as an error.
• On 4K monitors, the resize corner, attach points and names stay large enough to use.
• Stretching an instrument past the edge of the screen no longer leaves a blank page that you cannot fix.

Also, open windows such as Layouts now move out of the way while the glass screens are being popped out, and come back afterwards.

Who this is for

• If you fly an aircraft PanelSight doesn't support yet, you now know it, and you can send it to us so we can add it.
• If you fly full screen, three taps on Ctrl open Settings without leaving the sim.
• If you fly one of the aircraft listed under flaps, the flap indicator now matches the aircraft.
• If you build your own layouts, the editor is clearer and safer.

How to update

PanelSight checks for new versions by itself. When one is out, a notice appears next to the PanelSight icon in the Windows taskbar. Click the notice, then click Update now in Settings. PanelSight downloads the update, installs it and starts again on its own. You can also run the installer from the download page again.

Updating always installs the newest version, which includes everything in this release.
